Making Memories Stay Alive with Canon PowerShot Cameras

4 canon powershot cameraSpending time with my immediate family has its very special moments. That’s why I make sure to always carry my camera around, as you never know when you’ll want to save those memories for later. While we can get into family spats and have our differences, we really are close and care about each other. I think it’s great that I can recall the good times through looking at my photos.

To recall fond memories, I just look at the pictures on my camera. I use one of those Canon PowerShot cameras, because it’s really user friendly and has good quality pictures. I like sharing the pictures online at times, too. They’re great for social media sites. I think it’s a really versatile camera that anyone can use without any issues at all. It’s definitely my camera of choice.

Keeping my family’s memories alive is definitely my job in my family. I like showing pictures to everyone that I take when we’re all having fun together. And when we’re in a tough time, I keep these pictures close so I can remember the good times. They give me hope that we’ll return to a good time in no time at all.

How to select a lens filter for your DSLR?

Hoya 55mm Sepia B FilterI like to carry around a variety of different types of lens filters in my camera bag. I never know when I will need to reduce the glare of the sun, add some highlights, or make better use of reflections in my photography. After all, when traveling, how often do you stumble upon a wonderful waterfall that you didn’t know existed? It happens to me all the time, and a raw picture just doesn’t do it justice.

Although most of my lens filters are in the right thread for my chosen lens, either an occasional filter was only available in one thread or a specialty lens that I am using is designed with a different thread. So I also carry along lens filter adapters, as needed, to ensure that I can use any of my filters. These are inexpensive, easy to carry in my bag, and have very little effect on my camera’s balance.

By carrying all of these tools in my kit bag, I am always ready to get the image I’m looking for in any weather or environment I happen to get myself into. I just pop on my chosen lens, my lens filter (with lens filter adapter if necessary), and shoot away.

Until next time, Happy Shuttering!

Selecting Digital Cameras for Action Video.

Coleman C5WP 12.0M Xtreme UWWhen shooting underwater I find that my digital camera for action videos needs to have automatic functions to help me get the quick response from my camera that I need. Visible distance underwater is significantly shortened by turbulance in the water, sometimes requiring very fast response time to get my shot.

I find that features like Automatic Face Detection, image stabilization, and auto focus are extremely helpful in these short visual range situations, allowing me to get some shots that I would have otherwise missed. And with an 8X digital zoom, I can zoom in and out quickly to frame my picture just right.

The 2.7 inch sharp and clear LCD is easily viewable underwater and my camera’s controls are simple and well configured for my use. My camera also has a built-in underwater scene mode to help me.

I found out that I didn’t have to tap my budget for much to enjoy these features. And since I spend most of my time shooting around the reef, the 33 feet maximum depth of my camera works just fine for me. For me, this was a great choice for my digital camera for action videos. And I find its features allow it to work just as well for me above the water line as below it.

Until next time, Happy Shuttering!

Selecting the Perfect Camera Lens.

Canon EF 500mm f4LI’ve discovered that a Super Telephoto camera lens is the ultimate in professional quality close-up action shots and videos, even from way across the playing field. It includes fluorite optics so it can deliver extremely sharp images, and with no chromatic aberrations.

I had to pay a little more for a great, professional level, super telephoto lens due to the increased number of high quality glass elements it contains (16 elements in 12 groups, including a drop-in rear filter and a fluorite lens at G2 and G4), but it makes a difference that I can see in the quality of my long distance photos and videos. I’m really glad that I didn’t skimp on my budget this time!

It’s nice to be able to sit up high in the stands at a football game with my camera and take in all the action, from one end of the field to the other. It’s a real advantage at a racing event too. I can focus right in on a driver all around the track.

With its own image stabilization and inner focusing system I can also pan and record sharp video clips. I am really impressed by this super telephoto lens! But of course, it’s a Canon!

Until next time, Happy Shuttering!

Making Photo Magic Happen with Digital Camera Accessories

3 digital camera accessory tripodWhile having a camera is all well and good, it’s best to have some accessories that go with it. Because as you take pictures, you’ll probably notice things you wish you could do. Maybe you want more light, or maybe you want steadier pictures. You might also run low on power, and wish you had an extra power pack.

That’s why I think it’s good to have lots of different digital camera accessories in addition to the camera itself. There are lots of accessories that can help take pictures in lots of different ways. For example, a tripod is great for holding the camera still. It’s also great if you want to be in one of your pictures, as you could time your camera to take the picture on the tripod after getting yourself in the photo.

I think digital camera accessories help get photographers over boundaries that they face. Keeping a camera still, getting yourself in the picture, adding extra light, and charging up your camera on the go are all things that can be done through additional accessories. You can also get new perspectives through different lenses, which can also be considered accessories. I think camera accessories are important, and should always be considered.

How to select a lens filter for your DSLR?

Polarizing FilterYou can reduce reflections from objects such as water and glass by using a polarizing lens filter. It can also be used to darken the sky, bring out the clouds, and help reduce haze; making the colors in your shots or videos much more vivid.

A circular polarizer is easy to use. Once you attach it on the front of your lens, all you need to do is rotate it clockwise or counter-clockwise to get different amounts of polarization. Polarizing filters are designed to block certain light waves from entering the lens. Rotating a polarizing filter allows certain types of light waves to pass through, while blocking other light waves.

To get the maximum effect from a polarizing lens, you will need to position your camera’s point-of-view so that it is as close to 90 degrees from the sun (in any direction) as possible. So if the sun is in front of you or directly behind you and close to the horizon, you might not see the effect of polarization on the sky at all. But the polarizing filter will still help reduce haze and reflections under these conditions.

You do have to be very careful when using a polarizing lens with a super wide-angle lens, because the sky might not get darkened equally. As with all lens filters, check the lens filter thread of your lens before buying. Step up and step down rings are also available from most lens filter suppliers.

Selecting Digital Cameras for Action Video.

Although the Shotgun Microphone is your best all-around addition to improve your audio component when using digital cameras for action video, I mentioned that it is not well suited for very loud environments. The best advice that I have found for this type of environment is to point your shotgun into the air, instead of at your subject, that is, unless you’re in a commercial flight path. But there are other ways, beyond a good microphone, of improving your audio component.

WindbusterWhen microphones are used outdoors, they do require wind protection. Some shotgun microphones are sold with a covering that looks like a sock, for wind protection. And, when shooting in the rain, a rain cover can be purchased to both protect the microphone and block out the noise of rain droplets hitting its surface.

There are, of course, many post-production techniques that can be used to improve the audio component of a clip on your computer. It is recommended by most professionals that you do not rely solely on your video editing program(s) to edit your audio, since these editing programs focus primarily on video editing tools. Instead you might consider working with a dedicated audio application.

Highly specialized programs like Peak Pro (for Apple computers) and Sound Forge (for Windows) offer many more editing options for audio. You can even go beyond just two tracks of audio in your projects using multi-track applications like Pro Tools, Digital Performer, or Vegas Pro.

Selecting the Perfect Camera Lens.

Canon EF70_300_4-56ISUSMWhat do I see through the eye of my camera lens? Well, through my telephoto lens I see an image stabilized view (up to 3 stops of shake correction) of a sporting event from across the field. This way I can capture all the action sharp and clear.

A “mode 2” option stabilizes images while I pan with a moving subject and the fast autofocus of my telephoto lens keeps my focus just right no matter how I need to move my camera with the action. With a minimum focus distance of 4.9 feet, portraits of the winning team are no challenge either. At a weight of only 22.2 ounces, I can easily use my inexpensive tripod to support my camera and this lens.

When I travel I like to take my telephoto lens with me to capture mountain views, ocean views, and pictures of the wild life along the way. At only 3 inches by 5.6 inches it fits easily into my camera bag, ready to slip onto my camera and shoot.

And with a selection of 58mm lens filters, I can create amazing effects through the lens of my camera. I really love my camera lens, for the way it helps me to see the world in a whole new way!
